Sample Wardrobe Plan for Men

Here are some basics to get you started. It is worth spending a little extra money on good quality classic garments that will last. Once you have a good foundation of classics and basic pieces, you can add trendy more colorful pieces. I like to add color and interest to my wardrobe with shoes and interesting accessories like watches and messengerbags, etc.

  • Suit in a neutral color like charcoal gray or navy. I prefer 3 button suits with flat front pants like Prague II Men’s Charcoal 3-button Suit
from Overstock. Remember you do not button the bottom button when you wear a 3 button suit.

  • 2 pairs Jeans. Try the Gap for a pair of Gap Straight fit (dark indigo) or try Smart Bargains for a pair like Michael by Michael Kors Vintage “Bleeker” Jeans
  • Khaki pants. These Gap Stressfree relaxed fit flat front khakis can be dressed up or down. Try them with a button up shirt or a T.
  • Black pants. Flat front pants easier to dress up or down. Smart Bargains has black Geoffrey Beene Flat Front Suit Pants
  • Short sleeve tee shirts in black, white and your favorite color. Try this one Gap Fitted stretch T
  • Long sleeve tee shirts in black, white and your favorite color. Try this one in grey with jeans. Gap Fitted long-sleeved T
  • Polo shirt. Pick one in your favorite color or try one in white like Gap Short-sleeved classic pique polo
  • White button up shirt. I like Black Label Solid White Shirt.
  • Blue button up shirt like Black Label Solid Blue Shirt.
  • Striped button up shirt in your favorite color. Charles Tyrwhitt has a nice Ash Grey Stripe Slim Fit Shirt
  • Cashmere crewneck sweater in your favorite neutral color like this one in black from Overstock Prague Men’s Pure Cashmere Crewneck Pullover
  • Cashmere v-neck sweater in your favorite neutral color. Overstock has this one in grey Prague Men’s Pure Cashmere V-Neck Pullover

  • Boots. Try paring these black Sandro Moscol. - Men’s Vaughn boots from Shoes.com with your favorite jeans and a cashmere sweater.
  • Oxfords. Try these MEZLAN - Men’s Canova in black. They will work with almost everything from a suit to jeans.
  • Athletic inspired shoes. For days when you want to dress down try a pair of Puma Men’s Metro
  • Socks in solid colors to coordinate with your clothing. For a treat for your feet, you could try some of these from Overstock Prague Men’s Set of 2 Pairs Cashmere/Silk Socks
  • A few ties. A tie like this one from Overstock in the black and blue would work with the shirts above Bruno Piattelli Men’s Woven Paisley Fancy Tie
