Sample Wardrobe Plan for Women
Here are some basics to get you started. It is worth spending a little extra money on good quality classic garments that will last. Once you have a good foundation of classics and basic pieces, you can add trendy more colorful pieces. I like to add color and interest to my wardrobe with handbags, shoes and interesting accessories.
- Skirt suit in a neutral color like Black, gray, or navy. A good example is this Black Wool 2 Button Jacket and Black Wool Kickpleat Pencil Skirt from Charles Tyrwhitt.
- Pants to match suit (try and find pants from the same designer in the same fabric and color). Charles Trywhitt has Black Wool Trousers that match the jacket & skirt above.
- Dress preferable in black to take you from day to night. Black Belted Jersey Dress in silk and wool can be dressed up or down.
- Second pair of pants in a complimentary neutral color. If you choose a black suit you might try grey or tweed pants like these Garfield & Marks Kate Pants - Wool Tweed available from Sierra Trading Post.
- 2 pairs Jeans. You might try the Gap Straight original premium jean from the Gap or Salt Works Avenue A Stretch Denim Five-pocket Jeans from Overstock. Darker jeans can be dressed up or down, so it is a good idea to include a pair in your wardrobe.
- Khaki pants. These Gap Straight original low rise khakis are nice casual pants. Be sure to get khakis that are flat front.
- Black pants (if your suit or other pants are black no need to add an additional pair). These are a good choice Korinna Gabardine Pants
- Short sleeve tee shirts in black, white and your favorite color. I like the Gap Stretch T, they work with jeans or a suit.
- Long sleeve tee shirts in black, white and your favorite color. Try the Gap Long-sleeved stretch T
- White button up fitted blouse.
- Striped button up fitted blouse in your favorite color. You might consider a Tailored Ferris Stripe Shirt from Thomas Pink.
- Cashmere cardigan in a neutral color like this Silver Marl Cashmere Cardigan from Charles Tyrwhitt
- Cashmere or wool crewneck sweater in your favorite neutral color. I like this Prague Pure Cashmere Basic Crew Neck Pullover in Flannel Grey from Overstock.
- A-line skirt in a neutral color like this Garfield & Marks Gravina Skirt - Wool Tweed available from Sierra Trading Post.
- Denim jacket. Try pairing one like this from Smart Bargains Kenzie Stitched Denim Jean Jacket with a skirt, khakis or black pants.
- Tweed Blazer. This tweed blazer is part of a Tweed skirt suit. You could wear the jacket with jeans, black skirt or black pants and try the skirt with a sweater, black jacket or on its own with a shirt of your choice.
- Knee high boots. I like high heels like these Delman “Harp” Stretch Knee-High Boots from Smart Bargains but you could choose a lower heel.
- Pumps. I like a higher heel like these Michael Kors “Iliad” Black Suede Pointy Toe Pump from Smart Bargains but a lower heel would be fine (not to mention easier to walk in).
- Flats. You can wear these with skirts or pants Steven by Steve Madden “Quin” Suede Ballet Flat from Smart Bargains.
- Athletic inspired shoes. I like these Puma Women’s Numostro
- A belt. This one Ellen Tracy Smooth Leather Belt with Hardware will go with jeans or other pants.
- Misc tights and socks in solid colors to coordinate with your clothing. Try these DKNY Style 472, Basic Tights, Opaque Leg, Non-Control-Top Tights with boots and a skirt.
- A handbag. You could add one in a bright color like red to add a little interest to your wardrobe. Or you could stick to a basic like black. This one Kenneth Cole “Braid Service” Leather Satchel is available in both at Smart Bargains.
- A neutral color ¾ length wool coat. You might try this Famous NY Maker 5-Button Wool Coat in Charcoal from Overstock.
